"The Spirit of Ecstasy" IN THE INTERPRETATION OF JOHN RANKIN

The famous British photographer John Rankin presented three pictures of the “winner” from a series of photographs dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the symbolic image of the goddess Nicky decorating the hoods of Rolls-Royce cars.

Originally, the figurine appeared thanks to Lord Montague, the founder of The Car Illustrated magazine. He asked the artist Charles Sykes, who worked in the magazine, to create a figurine for his 1909 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost. Presumably, the image of Eleanor Valesco Thornton, personal secretary and lover of Lord Montague, was taken as the basis for the future legendary English symbol.

Many decades later, Rankin was given complete creative freedom and the opportunity to demonstrate a personal vision of the modern interpretation of the cult image of the “flying lady”. In his works, he tried to reveal many topics: power, mystery, intrigue, mature beauty, speed and wind. The collection contains portraits of women of different ages and cultures - their images embody mystery, femininity and grace.
