UAE authorities will check all foreign workers for the criminal past

The UAE government begins to check all foreign workers for a criminal record.

Dubai, UAE. The Government of the United Arab Emirates begins the verification of all foreign workers located in the territory of the state for a criminal record. This was announced by Sakr Gobash Said Gobash, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratization of the UAE, at a meeting of the Federal National Council.

An interdepartmental committee was created specifically for the general audit, which included representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization.

As noted during the meeting, currently 4.5 million foreign workers are constantly located in the UAE, and the government does not have any information about their criminal past. At the same time, the emirates go to make sure that each of them was not convicted - regardless of country of origin. It is noted that citizens of the country are required to obtain safety certificates when applying for a job.

The reason for the increased concern of the inhabitants of the UAE was the killing of an 8-year-old boy by a Jordanian citizen, which occurred in May 2016 in Sharjah. During the investigation, it was found out that the convicted person had already been prosecuted.

“I want to make sure that every driver of the car working in local families, every foreign worker has no criminal past, was not convicted. Otherwise, we cannot feel safe. Without passing a security check, he will not be able to get permission to work for UAE territory, "said Hamad Al Rahumi, a member of the Federal National Council from Dubai.
