When a BUGATTI VEYRON from $ 1.7 million topped the 2010 list of the most expensive production cars, one of the car commentators said, "Yes, the most expensive, but not the fastest." Apparently, the Volkswagen concern, which is responsible for the success of the Bugatti Veyron, anticipated this reproach, and therefore they were already preparing to enter the world markets a new modification - the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. To see the car, now breaking all conceivable and unimaginable records of speed and luxury, you had to either visit the town of Era Lessin in Lower Saxony, where all the tests of Volkswagen cars are carried out, or fly to California, where the annual Monterey took place car week.

Speed to the brink of the impossible

Admittedly, Car Week in the vicinity of Monterey is an outstanding event. Every day something happens here: antique car auctions, jazz music evenings, or wine tastings specially for members of Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini clubs, or Bentley owners. Incredibly popular is the "Monterey historical rally" in Laguna Seca, where classic sports cars of absolutely any model year compete in races on the 3.5-km ring. The only analogue of these races are considered only rally in Goodwood.

The week ends with an exhibition of the finest antique cars in the small town of Pebble Beach - Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. An exhibition with an almost 60-year history, the authority of which is so great that many manufacturers demonstrate their concept cars right here, as if trying to give both themselves and the audience an opportunity to feel how traditions have changed in automotive fashion. The new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport was first shown to the public at races in the Laguna Seca. Before the audience, they not only pulled off the cover from one of the black-and-orange models, but also arranged a solemn run along the entire racing ring, accompanied by an escort of several dozen Bugatti issued in the 1930s. It was impressive, because it is known that Bugatti cars have traditionally been produced in limited series.

Bugatti Veyron inherits these traditions, and only 35 Sport modifications will be released. Moreover, the first five of them were sold before the presentation in California, apparently due to their "collector's" status: they are no different from the car on which it was installed world record, and even have a special title - World Record Edition. On the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport racing circuit, former Formula 1 driver Pierre-Henri Rafanel drove a new record on Germany’s VW Ehra-Lessien, and he reached 431.07 km / h. hours The Guinness Book of Records immediately handed diplomas to the rider and creators of the concept car.

The Super Sport body is made of carbon fiber, which reduced the weight of the entire car by half a centner compared to the classic Veyron. Despite the fact that the Super Sport has the same 8-liter, 16-cylinder engine, the adjustment of the boost allowed to increase power to almost 1200 hp. Like the “regular” Veyron, this car reaches a speed of 100 km / h in 2 seconds, but the difference becomes noticeable if you take longer distances. For example, up to 300 km / h Super Sport accelerates 15 seconds faster.

Seconds count

The union of Parmigiani and Bugatti Veyron watches has been around for more than a year, however, by the time Super Sport came out, the Swiss launched a unique model called the Bugatti Super Sport. Watches are interesting not only for repeating the color gamut of black-orange record cars, but also for hiding a revolutionary clock mechanism in their case, where all mechanical components are placed on the vertical axis. Thus, the dial of this watch is already at a convenient angle with respect to the wrist of the driver, who does not need to make extra effort and turn his hand to find out the time if the hand is on the steering wheel at that moment. At the same time, the upper part of the watch shows the beauty of the mechanism and an indicator that shows how much is left of the 10-day factory. In total, only three dozen copies of such watches will be released, the price of which is US $ 259 thousand.

Michel Parmigiani, the head of Parmigiani Fleurier, became famous among collectors when in 1991 he restored the unique watches created by the watchmaker King Abraham-Louis Breguet in the beginning of the 19th century.

Commenting on the long-standing alliance between Parmigiani and Bugatti, Michel Parmigiani said: “I’m not a car collector, but a watch collector, but sometimes I draw a parallel between them. In a car, design is important to me. For example, when you see old Bugatti, you understand: they are so beautiful, that you don’t have to change anything in them. When Bugatti turned to us to make a watch for Veyron, first of all, it was clear that it was an extraordinary machine and the watch should also be extraordinary. " To the question of whether his unique invention can be copied, Michel answered: “If you are copied, it means only one thing: you have succeeded. No one will waste time copying someone else’s failure.” It remains to wish success and Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, worth more than 1,650,000 euros, and Parmigiani Bugatti Super Sport Watch in all markets of the world! After all, whatever one may say, they are the best in their classes!
