Speed reduced on two major Dubai highways

Dubai authorities set new speed limits on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and the Emirates Road.

Dubai authorities have decided to reduce the speed limit on the two main thoroughfares of the city from 120 km / h to 110 km / h. The changes will affect Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and the Emirates Road.

The Office of Roads and Transport (RTA) and the General Staff of the Dubai Police will implement the new restrictions from October 15. This decision was made as part of the efforts of both parties to reduce the number of accidents and ensure the safety of road users, the statement said.

The current throughput of the two roads is about 12 thousand cars per hour in each direction.

Maitha bin Adai, Director General of the Traffic Agency at RTA, said: “The reduction in speed limits at Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and the Emirates Road is the result of extensive research into road safety and analysis of data on traffic accidents and their causes last year. "
