Uber together with NASA will launch flying taxis into the sky of Dubai

Uber is developing a pilot UberAIR flying taxi program in Dubai, as well as in several American cities.

On Wednesday, Uber, which runs the taxi app of the same name, announced a partnership with NASA to develop flying taxis.

The UberAIR pilot project targets Dubai, Texas, Los Angeles. California and Texas are the US states with the most cars.

"Uber’s participation in NASA's Unmanned Traffic Management UTM project will help the company achieve its goal of launching UberAIR test flights in selected US cities by 2020," the company said in a statement.

The first demonstration flights are expected in 2020, and the transition to commercial flights - by 2023, in anticipation of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

At the first stage, flights will be carried out with the participation of the pilot, but in the future its presence will not be required, said company representative Matthew Wing.
