The introduction of VAT in the UAE stimulates the sale of school goods

In the UAE, there has been an increase in sales of goods for schoolchildren due to the introduction of VAT from the beginning of next year.

Some parents in the UAE began to purchase various children's things and school supplies before the entry into force of value added tax from January 1, 2018.

A relief for parents was the news that tuition fees alone would not be taxed (in addition to tuition fees for which the law would apply). However, amendments to the tax code include book purchases and school uniforms.

Pranesh Nair, the father of two children, said he was going to purchase four to five sets of school uniforms before the amendments entered into force.

“Perhaps I’ll buy a school uniform now, it will save a lot of money. Usually, in our family we buy four to five sets of school uniforms for our oldest child, and our youngest will go to school next year. Therefore, we think it is advisable to buy things before the end of this year. "

Nair noted that the introduction of this tax will affect expats who have to rely in the UAE only on their wages.

“It seems to me that it’s wrong for the government to levy taxes on the purchase of school uniforms and similar things. Education and medicine should remain inviolable in this regard. And although the state does not tax tuition fees, as such, the fee itself is increasing every year I would like to remind you that expats make up 80% of the number of people living in the country, and they only live on their salaries. The expenses for daily necessities only grow every year, and not only in the Emirates, but also in other countries. "- mark Ethyl Nair.

The mother of three children, Mariam Ayaz, said that her children would wear the old school uniform that had been preserved from previous years, and she would buy a new one only at the end of the school year, and the woman was going to get all the textbooks from high school students. All this will reduce family expenses.
