Emirate of Sharjah launches 10 smart buses for intercity flights

Emirate of Sharjah spent $ 2.7 million on 10 new buses connecting all the emirates.

Ten luxury buses joined the Sharjah UAE long distance bus fleet on Monday, January 8th.

Buses will run on various routes connecting all the emirates.

New buses cost 10 million dirhams ($ 2.7 million). They will help increase the efficiency of public transport, according to the Sharjah Highway and Transport Authority (SRTA).

Currently, the SRTA operates 112 buses on various city and intercity routes.

48-seater luxury buses are equipped with several intelligent features such as adaptive cruise control and lane management. Buses will help increase the efficiency and safety of public transportation, said Abdul Aziz Al Jarvan, director of public transportation at SRTA.

He said that adaptive cruise control helps to avoid a head-on collision with alarms and brakes. The system automatically reduces speed if the driver does not maintain the distance between the vehicles, and a signal warns the driver about the vehicle in front. The lane management system will not allow rebuilding without a turn signal on, and will also warn the driver if there are vehicles in other lanes.

Among the other features of the buses are four surveillance cameras, a rear view camera, as well as fire and smoke detectors.

Inside the buses there are chargers for smartphones, sockets for charging laptops, reading lamps, as well as comfortable lounge chairs, said Yussef Suleiman Al Hammadi of SRTA.

Buses are equipped with environmentally friendly Euro-4 engines.
