Abu Dhabi will begin testing unmanned vehicles

Masdar and the Abu Dhabi Department of Transportation will begin testing unmanned vehicles in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Transportation (DoT) and Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate in researching, testing and evaluating sustainable, electrical and autonomous transport technologies.

Khalifa Muhammad Al Mazrui, Deputy Minister of Transport, and Muhammad Jamil Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, signed the agreement during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2018.

The partnership is aimed at creating pilot projects that enhance the capacity of technologists in the local market. The agreement also covers the development of infrastructure for testing smart electric and autonomous transport technologies by both the public and private sectors.

Al-Mazrui reaffirmed that DoT intends to maintain sustainable transport by setting standards to encourage the use of low-emission vehicles.

"The Department of Transport is constantly working to encourage the public to switch to environmentally friendly vehicles in order to further improve the quality of life in the emirate of Abu Dhabi," he said.
