Hundreds of new eco-friendly taxis take to Dubai roads

Several hundred eco-friendly vehicles are joining Dubai's taxi fleet.

370 hybrid cars joined Dubai Taxi Fleet by order of the Roads and Transportation Authority (RTA).

New cars included Toyota Camry, Lexus, Hyundai Sonata and Nissan Altima.

RTA CEO Mattar Al Thayer said the purchase of new cars will increase the quality of passenger services.

“This allows us to offer a unique and exclusive taxi service to meet the growing demand and increase the level of service to achieve a higher level of customer satisfaction,” Al Thayer said.

“This step is also part of the RTA's CO2 reduction program for taxis by 2 percent, in line with the requirements of the Dubai High Energy Council and the Green Economy initiative,” he added.

In May, it was announced that surveillance cameras were installed in 6.5 thousand taxis in Dubai. It is expected that by the end of the year more than 10 thousand taxis in the emirate will be equipped with cameras.
