Dubai UAE A memorandum on mutual understanding between the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi and the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications on Russia's participation as an honored guest at the International Book Fair in Abu Dhabi in 2020 was signed in Rospechat.
On the part of the United Arab Emirates, the document was signed by the Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi Safe Said Gobash, and on the Russian side - by the Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications Vladimir Grigoryev.
The International Book Fair in Abu Dhabi will be held from April 16 to 22, 2020 at the National Exhibition Center in Abu Dhabi. At the Russian stand will be presented books by leading domestic publishers, as well as an extensive program. During the fair, visitors can not only purchase books and learn about publishing innovations, but also chat with writers, publishers and specialists in oriental culture. Moreover, museums, theaters and other cultural institutions will also become platforms for the presentation of the cultural wealth of our country.
In addition, in the framework of cooperation between Russia and the UAE, about 20 of the best works of modern Russian literature will be translated into Arabic. A list of authors and works is being prepared, but Russia intends to attract qualified translators for this, who could translate books from the original language. When translating from English or French (when translating from a translation), the charm and melody of the language, style, and sometimes even meaning, are completely lost, Vladimir Grigoryev noted.
By the way, about 80% of the population of Abu Dhabi are foreigners. The deputy head of Rospechat also expressed hope that the Russian-speaking residents of the emirate would show interest in the Russian stand at the upcoming fair.
