Dubai intends to regulate feeding stray cats

In Dubai, special zones for feeding stray cats may soon appear.

The municipality of Dubai is exploring the possibility of opening special zones for feeding stray cats on the streets of the emirate. Previously, the municipality will conduct an online survey to find out the opinion of the people of Dubai and to study the possible environmental impact of the initiative. This was reported by the Department of Public Health of the municipality.

The official statement said that the municipality was faced with a serious problem related to the unorganized feeding of stray cats in various areas of the emirate. According to experts, there are tens of thousands of stray cats on the streets of Dubai, and the municipality often receives complaints about unhygienic and unsafe ways of feeding animals.

Yanni Animal Welfare (YAW Dubai), an animal protection society that is conducting a survey in partnership with the municipality, is ready to implement a project to set up “feeding stations,” says Dr. Manal Al Mansouri, director of YAW.

“We work with the municipality and other government agencies,” she said, “we will make sure that street cats receive food and water of the highest quality.”

Manal Al Mansouri said that trained volunteers will be involved in working with the "stations." Until the end of 2019, a pilot project will be implemented in three districts of Dubai, and after successful experience will be extended to the entire emirate.
