Aircraft convicted in UAE for attempting catastrophe

In Abu Dhabi, an Asian expat was sentenced to life imprisonment for damage to an Airbus.

Dubai, UAE. The Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeals sentenced an aviation mechanic - a worker at the capital's international airport to life imprisonment, followed by deportation for damage to the engine control system of an Airbus aircraft.

The convicted person will also pay legal fees. According to the investigation, an expat from Asia intentionally tried to disable the Airbus 330-300 owned by the national air carrier, namely, it damaged electronic control units for engine No. 2, which could lead to an airplane crash immediately after takeoff.

In the case, these actions were qualified as preparing a terrorist attack. The verdict was passed under articles of federal laws No. 7 of 2014 “On Combating Terrorism” and No. 20 of 1991 “On Civil Aviation”.

The accused was recognized by the investigation as mentally sane and fully responsible for his actions.
