Dubai Ruler Celebrates 70th Anniversary

The UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler is celebrating his anniversary today.

On July 15, 2019, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, celebrates his 70th birthday.

The passion and vision of Sheikh Mohammed turned Dubai - once a small settlement - into an international city, in which representatives of more than 200 countries now live.

Sheikh Mohammed was born the third of the four sons of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and Sheikh Latifa Bint Hamdan Al Nahyan, the daughter of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the former ruler of Abu Dhabi. His brothers are Sheikh Maktum, Sheikh Hamdan and Sheikh Ahmed.

Sheikh Mohammed received the first lessons in management from his grandfather, the late Sheikh Saeed, the ruler of Dubai, who surrounded his grandson with love.

Sheikh Mohammed began his education in 1955 at the small primary school Al Ahmadiya School. At an early age he also studied falconry and horseback riding.

In August 1966, he continued his studies in Great Britain. He also attended the cadet school of officers, now known as the Royal Military Academy, where he received the highest rating among all foreign employees.

In 1968, Sheikh Mohammed returned to Dubai, and Sheikh Rashid appointed him head of the Dubai Police and Public Security. This was his first public post. He was later appointed Minister of Defense, becoming the youngest Minister of Defense in the world.

Sheikh Mohammed was present at the negotiations that led to the formation of the UAE.

In 1995, Sheikh Maktum, the ruler of Dubai, signed a decree appointing Sheikh Mohammed as the Crown Prince of Dubai.

In his post, Sheikh Mohammed has developed many infrastructure projects for the new digital economy and launched the e-government initiative. He is known throughout the world for his leadership qualities, the ideas of tolerance and kindness that he publicly broadcasts, as well as his wise vision.

The ruler of Dubai is also known as the author of books. At the beginning of this year, he released another work, telling about 50 years of devotional service to the nation.
