The local theater group H72 Productions presents interpretations of the famous play Venus in Fur from September 7 to 15 at The Junction Theater in Alserkal Avenue.
In the 19th century, Leopold von Sacher-Masoch wrote the scandalous novel Venus in Furs, which describes the psychological confrontation between Severin von Kuzimsky, a young aristocrat with masochistic tendencies, and Vanda Dunaeva, a beauty with Russian roots.
This is a benefit play for two (a man and a woman, aged 30 to 45 years), in which two literary strata are artfully intertwined - texts of the 19th century Zahera-Masoch and the modern language in which we communicate, people of the 21st century. One of the first potentials of the play was discerned by filmmaker Roman Polanski and released a film that received a nomination for the Grand Prix of the Kansk Film Festival.
Playwright Thomas Novachek made a stage adaptation of this story and conducts auditions for the role of the main character, Wanda. For the whole day he did not see a single suitable candidate, but after the end of the casting a young assertive woman comes. By a strange coincidence, her name is also Wanda, and she came to the casting, a few hours late. A regular reading develops into a psychological struggle between a man and a woman.
