Dubai, UAE. More than 600 stores in the United Arab Emirates will offer discounts on 10 thousand items of goods ranging from 50 to 75% during the holy month of Ramadan. The total "value" of all discounts is commensurate with the sum of 300 million dirhams (US $ 82 million), which is 50 million more than a year ago. This was reported in the Ministry of Economy of the UAE.
Traditionally, many stores will freeze prices during the holy month: this year prices will not rise by 4,500 items, which is 15% higher than last year. As expected, Ramadan will begin on May 27, every day 21 thousand tons of fruits and vegetables will be imported to the Dubai market.
During Ramadan, the department will inspect stores, markets and food warehouses in all emirates - a total of 450 inspections are planned. A campaign to raise consumer awareness of their rights will also be strengthened.
In the first quarter of 2017, the relevant department of the ministry reportedly received more than 10 thousand complaints about the quality of consumer goods, including overpricing, malfunctions in electronics, poor-quality furniture and spare parts, credit cards, etc. A total of 275 thousand low-quality were recalled from the UAE market goods, including 165 thousand cars and 90 thousand electronic devices.
